Worlds of Fun opened its 2025 season with unexpected energy and a lot of positivity. This is the first time in recent memory that we visited the park on opening day and felt that it was full and buzzing. We visited for a few hours on opening day to activate our meal plans and returned the next day for a full walkthrough.
Timber Wolf Closed for the 2025 Season
Going into this season, the social media team was very vocal about the changes coming to the park. Most notably, Timber Wolf, the park’s 1989 Dinn wooden coaster, would not operate for the 2025 season. This news sent ripples through season pass groups and the coaster community, which are theorizing and sharing their hopes for the future of the coaster.
As someone who actually enjoys this coaster with a lot of character, I thought the park would feel the effects of losing a coaster for the season, but it doesn’t seem that anyone who visited noticed all that much. Timber Wolf remains standing, but a large privacy fence has surrounded the coaster, and its sign has been removed from its entrance.
Only time will tell us Timber Wolf’s fate, but in the meantime, many of the park’s other coasters received updates to track or queue.
Mamba’s New Coat of Paint
Mamba received a new coat of paint, going from a faded red to a striking green. They’ve even switched out a lot of the merchandise to fit the green theme.
Spinning Dragons Queue Canopy
Spinning Dragons is in the process of getting much-needed shade added to its queue. The structures are in place, but the overhead canvas has yet to be installed.
Prowler Receives Titan Track
Prowler has received the Great Coasters International (GCI) “Titan Track” treatment, with over 400 feet of new steel track replacing the original wooden track. I’m happy to report that the overall experience of this great GCI remains the same, and really, these updates shouldn’t be too noticeable to guests.
Boomerang’s Extended Queue
Boomerang’s queue has been extended, which was another needed update as its line used to spill out onto the midway.
Zambezi Zinger’s Enclosed Lift
Finally, we reach the most significant update: the enclosure built around Zambezi Zinger’s spiral lift hill. Many questioned how enclosing the track would feel, as Midwest summers can get hot. The park installed fans throughout the lift, and the bottom is not enclosed, so hopefully, the potential heat won’t be too much of a factor. It is loud inside, so be prepared if you are sensitive to loud noises.
It’s also worth noting that train updates were made in the off-season to address some of the issues reported by guests, including discomfort and vibrations. As someone who doesn’t particularly like this coaster, the updates to the trains have made it more of an enjoyable experience.
Other Worlds of Fun 2025 Updates
Other updates around the park are mostly cosmetic, including upgraded seating areas, fresh paint on rides and buildings and a few new video boards in each park section. Overall, the park looks clean, fresh and cared for. The operations and overall excitement feel light-years ahead of where they have been on opening days in the past.
